Rekha Chaudhary, MD, a medical hematologist and oncologist at the University of Cincinnati, discusses why
chemotherapy is needed to
prepare for
tumor infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy for melanoma. She explains that chemotherapy reduces the number of your body's own lymphocytes that are not working against the cancer. The chemotherapy gets rid of these cells, and when you get the TIL infusion, you get all the immune cells that are primed and ready to target and fight the cancer.
